Updates: Storm Bert leaves Mayo flooding problems in its wake
Extensive flooding issues are being reported across Mayo in the aftermath of Storm Bert.
Mayo County Council has confirmed the closure of a number of roads due to combination of heavy overnight rain and melting snow.
They include the N59 Westport to Leenane route due to flooding at Erriff Bridge.
The R335 Ballinrobe to Westport road is also shut to traffic due to flooding Railway Bridge.
The N59 is flooded in Ballina - but it is passable at Judge's roundabout and Cathedral Road.
The Keenagh to Newport Road is impassable due to a landslide at Shramore Church.
A bridge has been swept away at Derreendafberg, Srah, Tourmakeady. Residents not impacted with access available either side of the bridge.
Newport Sewage Concern Group posted to its Facebook page a image of flooding in the vicinity of Newport National School.
The post stated: "This is an offset of having no drainage in our town, all arising from the lack of a proper, working sewage system."
There is serious flooding in Bohola near the turn to Straide, according to the Swinford 250 & More Facebook page.
The platform has also reported flooding in Ballyvary.
"What a difference a day makes. Blizzards yesterday, flooded today," the page added.
Louisburgh-based Councillor Chris Maxwell said roads all over the west Mayo area are flooded or partly flooded.
He said: "You don't know what damage will be done if you drive through these floods.
"Don't give reason for the emergency services to be called out when it could be avoided.
"Today is a further example of why we needs our rivers and drains cleaned.
"If this was done, damage would be kept to a minimum.
"After the show thawing out was followed by heavy rain, the water has nowhere to go as the rivers are so chocked up.
"It's time something was done."
Louisburgh Tidy Towns has shared a video of extensive flooding.
Westport Councillor Peter Flynn said Mayo County Council staff are doing their best to deal with the fallout of last night's storm and melting snow.
"Every effort is being made to reopen roads that have been impacted by flooding," he stated.
FURTHER UPDATES FROM MAYO COUNTY COUNCIL
The North Mall at Westport Post Office is closed due to surface water.
The R335 Louisburgh to Aasleagh Falls road is closed at Glenkeen Farm and the Louisburgh side of Aasleagh Falls.
The L1403 Keenagh to Newport Road is closed and impassable due to a landslide at Shramore Church.
The L14035 Glendavoolagh is closed due to a landslide.
The R327 Claremorris to Cloonfad is closed at Tulrahan due to flooding. Local diversions are in place.
Flash flooding has resulted in the N5 being closed at Lislackagh. Traffic lights will be in operation.
