Taoiseach urged to pay Mayo section 39 workers 'proper rate'
An elected member of Mayo County Council has issued a pre-general election plea on behalf of Mayo section 39 workers.
Councillor Harry Barrett stated: "Taoiseach Simon Harris could pay Western Cand IWA workers in Mayo their proper rate in the morning.
"He knows it. His government ministers in this county know it too.
"If he wants to show a real appreciation for the disability sector, the first thing he must do is to pay our disability workers in Mayo the rate that they are entitled to.
"These are the workers that drove the lonely roads of Mayo during the Covid pandemic, putting themselves at risk, with no vaccine, because of their dedication while we all sheltered in place.
"They have nothing to prove, they satisfy all the regulations and do the same work.
"They have families to feed and kids to get through college like every other HSE employee.
"Please ask the next canvasser who comes to your door, especially government junior ministers here in Mayo, to pay the Section 39 workers their proper rate.
"Stop the avoidance. The two tier pay rate for these key workers must end."
