A 'thumbs-up' for FF during Mayo county town canvass
Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin received a resounding 'thumbs up' when he paid a visit to the Castlebar Car Boot Sale while canvassing in the Mayo county town today.
He was invited into the Moving Mug coffee truck run by Adrian and Bernie Gainley, Parke, for a photoshoot.
National and local cameras focused on the spot as a delighted Adrian gave a thumps-up to the Tanáiste, whose party is currently tipped to lead the next government.
He proceeded to greet mass-goers outside the nearby Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, while chatting with members of the local town band taking part in a church gate collection.
Mr. Martin, who was accompanied by Mayo candidate Senator Lisa Chambers, earlier met councillors and grassroot members at Cuppa Joe's cafe at Market Square.
The big breakfast gathering heard Mr. Martin giving an enthusiastic endorsement of Senator Chambers and her abilities.
"She is an experienced legislator with tremendous intelligence, experience and capability.
"Lisa is a very effective communicator and I know her campaign has been going well.
"But it's important for members to maintain the momentum over the next six days to ensure Mayo returns two Fianna Fáil TDs to the next government."
Mr. Martin is canvassing later with Ballina-based Minister of State Dara Calleary.
Taoiseach Simon Harris is also due to visit the Mayo constituency today, the details of which will be reported on later.
