Castlebar Tidy Towns to honour local environmental champions

CELEBRATING its 30th year, Castlebar Tidy Towns is excited to announce its upcoming awards ceremony, celebrating the efforts of local businesses, schools, resident groups and community organisations in enhancing the town’s environment.

The awards recognise contributions in sustainability, litter control and creative environmental projects.

The awards event will take place at Garbo's, Mayo Leisure Point, on Thursday, December 5, at 7.30 p.m.

This year's competition focused on promoting sustainability, litter control, biodiversity, floral displays, composting, climate action and green energy initiatives.

Winners of the Tidy Towns schools poster competition, which attracted over 1,000 entries, will also be announced, with awards for Under 8, Under 12, and Special Schools categories.

Awards will also be presented for Best Business and Shop Fronts; Resident Groups maintaining clean, green spaces; Schools for environmental education and projects; and Floral and Biodiversity Displays.

“Our goal is to recognise great work and inspire more community involvement in sustainability,” said Joe Butler, founding member.

Everyone is welcome to join the event on December 5 at Garbo’s to celebrate community spirit and environmental stewardship. The free event includes light refreshments after the presentations.
