Passing of popular Mayo taxi driver is deeply regretted

The death of Geraldine Jordan (née Jordan),Kilkenny Cross, Castlebar and late of Breaffy, Castlebar, is widely mourned.

She died peacefully after a short illness in the care of the staff of Mayo Hospice, Castlebar, surrounded by her family.

Geraldine worked as a taxi driver in Castlebar for many years and was very popular and respected in the county town and surrounding areas.

Many fond tributes are being paid to her on social media.

One stated: "I remember her as a very warm, vibrant and lively lady."

Another said: "What lovely memories I have of her when I was a teenager, often taxi-ing me home for free! What an absolute lady."

She is deeply regretted by her son Kenneth (Galway), daughter Toni (Castlebar), grandchildren Amy, Tyrone, Oisin, CJ, Chelsea and Ronan, brothers Michael (Balla), John (Southampton, UK) and Gabriel (Southampton, UK), sisters Roseleen Heverin (Castlebar) and Bridie Winter (Castlebar), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Geraldine was predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary Ann, husband Michael, brothers Paddy, Brendan, Christy, Vincent and Kevin and her sister Jo Walsh.

Geraldine will repose in Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, this evening (Thursday) from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to her residence.

Removal from her residence on Friday morning at 10.15 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint Aloysius Church, Breaffy.

Geraldine will be laid to rest afterwards in Breaffy Cemetery.
