Election tallies point to destination of four of five Mayo seats

Alan Dillon and Rose Conway-Walsh are neck and neck in the race to top the poll in the Mayo constituency.

According to FG party tally figures, the Castlebar-based representative has significantly increased his first preference rating, polling strongly across the constituency.

However, he is behind Sinn Féin's Rose Conway-Walsh, who is also attracting a strong first preference share despite a drop in her 2020 performance of 22.74% with Fianna Fáil's Dara Calleary in third spot.

Conway-Walsh, Dillon, and Calleary are expected to take the first three seats with Councillor Mark Duffy, a FG newcomer, in line for the fourth seat in the five seat constituency.

This cannot be taken as certain, however, as it's difficult to see north Mayo claiming three of the seats.

With all boxes opened and tallies completed, the prospect in regard to fifth seat in Mayo is very unclear.

That leave the mother of all scrambles for the final seat between Lisa Chambers (FF), Patsy O'Brien (Independent), Paul Lawless (Aontú) and Keira Keogh (Fine Gael).

However, Duffy in the fourth seat cannot be deemed safe as there are so many in the running at this point with transfers extremely difficult to call.

It is shaping up to be a disappointing day for Fine Gael newcomer Martina Jennings, who had been added to the party ticket in south Mayo.
