Progress report on west Mayo regeneration project

MAYO County Council has issued a progress update on the Newport regeneration project.

The project consists of an enterprise hub, public realm works and Dark Skies-friendly viaduct lighting.

A review of the project has been carried out and the project execution plan has been developed and approved by the steering group.

Tenders for the engagement of an architect led design team for the enterprise hub have been advertised and it is anticipated that they will be appointed in January 2025.

A contract for the demolition of the derelict buildings on Barrack Hill is being prepared as an advanced works contract to the main building contract.

An ecologist has been appointed to carry out a bat survey and environmental screening of the viaduct for the lighting project.
