Mayo post box being mistakenly used as poo box

BAGS of dog poo are finding their way into a post box in west Mayo by mistake.

Councillor Johnny O'Malley didn't create a big stink about the matter when he highlighted it at a municipal meeting, but he did wonder how to get it across to pet owners that it's a 'post box, not a poo box'.

The Westport area member asked management if the council is involved in allocating dog poo boxes.

He explained how there is an area is the locality where people go walking with their dogs.

There is a letterbox at the end of a road in the area and when the owner checks on it, it is full of dog poo.

That's what she gets in her letterbox - packets of dog poo.

And he was wondering if there was any way the owner could be alleviated of this problem.

People out walking can't know that it's there for anything other than their use and they are pulling it down and shoving it in, he explained, which isn't fair on the owner.

With one quick wit wondering if it should be a case of 'return to sender', Councillor O'Malley said the point would have to be made known beside it: “It's a post box, not a poo box.”
