Boil water notice remains in place on Mayo island

UISCE Éireann is continuing to work to lift the boil water notice in place for customers on Inishturk.

Following an electrical fault at the treatment plant after a power outage, the boil notice was put in place on November 22 to protect the health of the islanders and those visiting the island.

All homes and businesses on the island must boil their water before drinking.

Said Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill: “Drinking water experts from Uisce Éireann are working, in consultation with the HSE, to implement solutions to lift the notice as quickly and as safely as possible.

“We are currently awaiting delivery of an essential component for the plant and once that arrives we will work towards lifting the notice. In the meantime, all customers on this supply are advised to boil and cool their water before use until further notice.

“I thank the community for their cooperation while we work to resolve the issue and can assure them our team is working to lift the notice as soon as possible.”
