Daytime coffee shop to be discontinued at Mayo county town arts centre

THE daytime coffee shop at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar will be closing later this month.

The centre announced the decision on its social media, saying it was taken after every attempt was made to continue the coffee shop, which has been a popular eating and meet up spot for many years.

The announcement explained: 'The Linenhall is heavy-hearted today, as we share the news that we will pause our day time coffee shop service from Saturday, 21 December.

'Our evening hospitality will continue as normal for our events programme.

'We want to thank all of our fantastic customers and supporters over the years and we look forward to seeing you in the building again soon at our exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and festivals.

'During the daytime the space will be hopping with creativity as weekly and monthly workshops continue, including our Open Mic Poetry and Short Prose; Slow Trad Session; Inclusive Singing; Club Ceol; and new workshops starting in 2025.

'The decision is made after a lengthy process, with every attempt made to continue. Like hospitality venues throughout Ireland, circumstances beyond our control mean that it is not possible to continue our daytime coffee shop service at this time.

'We want to make a special mention of the fantastic team that managed the coffee shop for many, many years without which we would not have been able to continue our service for as long as was possible.

'Thank you to everyone in the community for your continued support.'
