Charity shop raises €5,000 for South Mayo Branch MS Ireland

A WESTPORT charity shop has supported the work of the South Mayo Branch of MS Ireland this Christmas.

At the annual Christmas lunch for members of South Mayo Branch of MS Ireland, the charity that works on behalf of people with multiple sclerosis in Ireland, Melissa O’Malley Hoban presented a cheque for €5,000 to Tony Candon, branch chair, to support their work for people with MS in the south Mayo area.

Melissa presented the cheque on behalf of Curiosity, the Westport charity shop that she owns, having taken over the ownership of the shop from her mother, Lynne O’Malley, a few years ago.

Speaking at the event, Melissa said that she and her shop were very happy to continue to support the work of the local branch of MS Ireland because of the great work it was doing for people with MS in and around Westport and beyond that in south Mayo.

It was, she said, a charity that they had been supporting for more than a decade now, and they knew that the money the donated was used to great effect to improve the lives of those living with multiple sclerosis.

Thanking Melissa, her mum and the team at Curiosity, Tony Candon expressed the branch’s gratitude to them for their continued support. He appreciated particularly, he said, the fact that this support had been forthcoming for more than a decade now, and he praised and thanked Melissa and her mum, Lynne, for their faith in the branch to spend the money wisely on behalf people who badly needed this support.
