Essential overnight water restrictions in west Mayo town

Uisce Éireann is advising customers in Newport that it’s necessary to implement water conservation measures following a number of significant bursts on the supply.

Crews are working to locate and repair the bursts. However, weather conditions are hampering works.

In the meantime, customers are asked to be mindful of their water usage and allow the local reservoirs to replenish.

Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill assured customers that every effort will be made to restore a normal supply to all homes and businesses when it is safe for crews to do so.

“We are appealing to customers in Newport to conserve water to give the reservoirs time to replenish,” she said. “Any reduction that customers can make in their usage can collectively result in significant supply improvements for all homes and businesses.”

For more simple ways to conserve water, check out the Uisce Éireann conservation calculator (www.water.ie/calculator), which can help people work out how much water they are currently using and how they can conserve even more.

An alternative water supply will be available tomorrow (Saturday) at Kelly’s Garage, Gráinne Uaile Public House, and the day centre on Barrack Hill.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Colette also called on locals to report any leaks. Members of the public can report leaks in the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann at 1800 278 278 or online at Report a Leak.
