Plans lodged for Mayo data centre
PLANS for a data centre development in Killala are before Mayo County Council for consideration.
Mayo Data Hub Limited have lodged plans for the facility, to be based at Mullafarry and Tawnaghmore Upper, Killala. The site is located to the west of the R134 (regional road) and Killala Business Park.
The data centre building has a proposed overall gross floor area of c. 29,076 sq.m across two levels.
In recent years a range of energy projects have secured permission and have been constructed in the immediate and general vicinity of the application site.
The site is near Ballysakeery Glebe House, which is currently vacant, but there are plans in place to use it for future community use.
Meanwhile, Schutz (Ireland) Limited is set to carry out a significant extension of its plant at Killala Business Park.
An application for the development project is being lodged with Mayo County Council.
Local Councillor Jarlath Munnelly said the investment is a vote of confidence in the town and he looked forward to the projects proceeding.
Previously, Mayo County Council approved the sale of two plots of land to AVAIO to allow for the data centre project to progress.
