Mayo author makes history in world's newest country

Mayo author Kevin McDonald, a retired army man, mountaineer and archaeologist, has become the first Irish person to launch a book in the newest country in the world, South Sudan.

The Castlebar native did so last weekend with the launch of his fascinating book, entitled 'A life Less Ordinary.'

The Mayo county town is so proud of this unassuming man who has lived and worked in such conflict countries for much of his life.

Retired from the army, Kevin is still giving his services to the people of South Sudan in an incredible gesture to keep peace and make people's lives bearable.

His book is extraordinary read by an extraordinary man, a book for everyone's Christmas list.
