Mayo Women's Football League announces its 2024 award winners

THE Mayo Women's Football League will be holding its annual awards night on January 17, at the Western Hotel in Claremorris.

There's much to celebrate in a year that saw continued growth in the women's game right across the ages, from Under 17 to senior level.

And that trend looks set to continue in 2025 with two new clubs looking to enter teams in the women's league - Fahy Rovers and Glenhest - while work is progressing on holding the inaugural Masters League for players over 30.

Manulla continued to dominate at the top flight of the women's Premier Division in 2024, retaining their league and Rumley Cup titles. Castlebar Town took the spoils in a thrilling Mayo Cup final.

Kilmore gained promotion from Division One of the Women's League - a good return on their second year back playing. Killala enjoyed a good season too and celebrated by winning the Mary Walsh Cup.

Castlebar Celtic emerged as the dominant force at both Under 19 and Under 17 level. In the Under 17 league, Kiltimagh Knock United were the only team to take points from them, while the Under 19s dropped just four to finish six clear of Manulla on the table.

In the cup competitions, Westport United took the silver at the Under 17 grade with Celtic making it a league and cup double at Under 19.

The Mayo Women's League has announced its teams of the year and monthly Player of the Month award winners, along with the Golden Boot winners, where Riona Moynihan has the unique distiction of being top scorer in the Under 17 and Under 19 leagues, with 15 goals in each.
