Passing of 'gentleman' Michael Dempsey is deeply regretted in Mayo

The death of Michael Dempsey, Abbey View, Skehanagh Upper, Ballintubber, and formerly of Boradruma, Snugboro, Castlebar, is greatly mourned.

A widely-known and respected cattle haulier and farmer, he was held in high regard by the community at large.

Michael passed away peacefully after a short illness at home, surrounded by his heartbroken family.

Michael will be deeply missed by his loving wife Margaret and by his heartbroken family: Orlaigh (Carracastle), Aisling (Ballintubber), Darrina (Clogher), Nikki (Carracastle), Michael Jnr (Ballintubber) and Jason (Ballintubber), and his adored and cherished grandchildren Ryan, Rachel, Hollie, Ethan, Jack, Dylan, Ben, Amelia, Sophia, Isabelle, Noah and baby Theo.

He is also deeply regretted by his sisters Breda (Kells), Julie (Cavan), Ann (Drumshaughlin), Agnes (Breaffy), brothers Tony (London), Neil (Foxford) and Thomas (Boradruma), daughters in law Mary and Louise, sons-in-law Billy, Stephen, Adrian and Gary, brothers-in-law , sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Michael was predeceased by his parents Tony and Roseanne, his sisters Margaret Rose Stidd (Dallas), Mary Dempsey Brayton (Kansas) and his brother Pat (Boradruma).

Fond tributes are being paid to him on social media.

"Michael was a true gentleman, with a word and smile always," one stated.

"A lovely man, hardworking and caring," another said.

A further tribute described him as 'a great stockman and always easy to deal'.

Remains reposing at his residence this evening (Friday) from 4 until 7 p.m., accessible only via a shuttle bus service operating from Ballintubber Abbey car park (F12W584).

Remains arriving on Saturday morning at Ballintubber Abbey for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
