90% rates abatement scheme unveiled by Mayo local authority

Mayo County Council has considered a scheme providing for abatement of rates in respect of vacant properties.

It applies in respect of the 2025 financial year and subsequent years.

The amount of relief considered for vacant properties is 90% on the understanding that such properties are bona fides (as follows):

1. Vacant and advertised to let.

2. Closed undergoing major refurbishment.

The application form for applying for this abatement can be requested by contacting the council's debt management unit at rates@mayococo.ie
