THE final events of 2024 at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar feature joyful music and film, plus an innovative workshop experience.

Join singer-songwriter Declan Askin and virtuoso pianist Bart De Boer on Thursday, December 19, for an unforgettable night. This dynamic duo combine heartfelt storytelling with extraordinary musicianship, creating an intimate and emotionally powerful performance.

From tender love ballads to uplifting anthems, poignant reflections on loss, and moments of light-hearted humour, their repertoire of original songs span the full range of human emotions. With delight, the Linenhall presents a screening of Elf, the festive, cinematic treat for all ages, on Saturday, December 21, at 3 p.m.

Starring Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human raised by elves at the North Pole, this heart-warming comedy follows his journey to New York City in search of his biological father. There, Buddy discovers a family in need of Christmas cheer and sets out to restore the holiday spirit with his boundless elf enthusiasm.

Directed by Jon Favreau, Elf is the perfect holiday film for families and its dedicated fanbase to revisit.

MAYO MAKERSPACE

Mayo MakerSpace continues on Saturday, December 21.

A hands-on workshop opportunity which brings technologists and artists together, participants will have access to tools like 3D printers, laser cutters and automation technology to create anything they can imagine.

Facilitator Hassan Dabbagh encourages creativity, saying: “If you can dream it, we can help you build it.”

These workshops, designed to inspire collaboration and imagination, are open to adults and cost €5 per session. Reconnect with your creativity and bring your ideas to life in a fun, interactive environment.

COMING UP

Also upcoming is the latest Linenhall World Book Club with Michael Minassie, this evening (Tuesday, December 17), while the Linenhall Film Club’s 2024 finale, The Taste of Things, screens that same evening. Film club then pauses, with the new year schedule to be announced very soon.
