Busy Mayo street cordoned off as gardaí probe 'serious incident'

Tucker Street in Castlebar town centre has been closed off to traffic and pedestrians this morning as gardaí investigate what has been described as 'a serious incident' at the location, which occurred in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí have confirmed that a serious assault on a man took place on the street at approximately 3 a.m. today.

As a result of the assault, a man in his 20s was brought by the emergency services to Mayo University Hospital.

Traffic is being diverted to New Line and New Antrim Street as garda bollards have been placed across the entrance of the street.

Tucker Street is expected to be closed out for another few hours as investigations continue.

The situation has caused disruption for business owners in the locality during one of the busiest weeks of the year.
