Éilis will be also be lovingly remembered by all of her aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family, her neighbours and a very wide circle of friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their great loss.

Remains will be reposing at St. Joseph's Funeral Home, Ballinrobe, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

In its tribute, Mayo LGFA extended heartfelt and sincere condolences to Èilis’s family as well as extended sympathies to her football club, Ballinrobe GAA Club, with whom she played with distinction, determination and grit.

"She was a player who put everything into her game and left it all on the field.

"Éilis was a great character on the pitch and you'd do well to stop her determination. Courageous on the ball and a leader.

"Éilis also played for a time with the Neale GAA Club. We would also send our condolences to her sister Claire who plays with Kilmaine LGFA.

"The sisters often came up against each other on the field, more notably the girls lined out on opposite teams in the Mayo League finals earlier this year.

"A talented, tough, hardworking and tenacious player and big lover of LGFA and GAA, you'd always see Èilis out supporting the women's and men's Mayo teams throughout the season, both home and away.

"She took pride in the jersey and she will be deeply missed both on and off the field. The sky has gained an angel and a team mate her family and friends," the tribute added.

Many other warm tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
