Letter to the Editor: The square number 'omen' for Mayo to end All-Ireland GAA title famine

Sir,

New Year greetings to all my friends in Mayo.

As a mathematician, I cannot help noticing that Mayo first won the All-Ireland Senior Men's football title in 1936 and that 1936 = 44 x 44 is a square number.

Now 2025 = 25 x 25 is the next square number so maybe it is an omen that this is our year again.

We live in hope!
