Arctic conditions threaten Mayo club's All-Ireland semi-final clash in Longford

GAA officials are monitoring the adverse weather conditions predicted to envelop the country in the coming days in the hope that postponements to key All-Ireland club football semi-finals can be avoided.

Sub-zero temperatures forecast and the prospect of snow at the weekend threaten fixtures taking place in Tullamore, Longford, Cavan, Portlaoise and Roscommon.

They include Crossmolina Deel Rovers' All-Ireland IFC semi-final against Leinster champions, Caragh (Kildare), at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park in Longford on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Met Éireann’s warning of disruptive weather comes with the guidance that snowfall could be most prevalent in the midlands.

Challenge games that are due to officially showcase the adopted playing rules in Gaelic football for the first time - including Mayo's clash with Monaghan at McHale Park, Castlebar - are also in jeopardy because of the cold snap.
