Mayo animal welfare charity highlights old problem at start of new year
Animal welfare charity North West SPCA, based in Ballina, has highlighted an old problem rearing its ugly head again at the very start of the new year.
In a Facebook post, the group said: “A couple of days into the new year of 2025 and it starts all over again. Found dumped in a ditch outside of Ballina this morning two little puppies. How they survived the night is beyond thinking about with freezing temperatures and no shelter.”
The post continued: “Innocent victims of overbreeding due to selfishness and greed and not neutering their dogs. No doubt in our minds after dumping these babies the owner went home and slept well in their warm beds.”
The puppies are safe now in the care of the team at North West SPCA, and are due to be vaccinated. The charity is appealing for donations to assist with their care. Donation details can be found on the North West SPCA Facebook page.
