Work starting this spring on new east Mayo athletics facilities
WORK on a new running track and athletics facilities in east Mayo will get underway this spring.
The €400,000 project is based in Charlestown and the development is a significant boost for the local East Mayo AC and East Mayo Special Olympics.
In an update, East Mayo AC said since its formation in 2019, the club has been working behind the scenes to bring its track development to life for its 250 members. The enthusiasm, energy and commitment of the committee will bring this to fruition this year.
This spring, work will commence on a six-lane floodlit 200m synthetic grass running track, with a 3G astro in the centre, long jump, throwing area and new cross country training layout.
Situated in the centre of Charlestown, the €400,000 investment in an athletics hub will undoubtedly attract more participants, foster local talent and signal a turning point in athletics within the community.
There are various ways to support the club in fundraising for the project.
* Sponsor a metre of track at https://east-mayo-athletic-club.sumupstore.com/.
* Get involved with and support their LipSync Battles Ireland fundraiser.
* If you are a business owner, sponsorship packages are available which will give you more visibility and acknowledgement. Get in touch at eastmayotrack@gmail.com if you are interested in sponsoring this exciting project.
Keep an eye on East Mayo AC's socials for further updates.
The club is always looking for more volunteers so if you are interested in getting involved, please contact any of the committee.
To kick the year off, everyone is invited to join them next Friday, January 10, for the club AGM at 7 p.m. in the arts centre, and afterwards at 9 p.m. in Walsh's Bar for the launch of the Lip Sync fundraiser.
