Status Orange weather warning issued for Mayo

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange - Low Temperature/Ice Warning for the county and wider province.

The warning is in effect from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, to 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

The morning will be bitterly cold, with widespread frost and icy stretches. While sunny spells and scattered wintry showers are expected, some areas may experience lingering patches of freezing fog throughout the day.

Highest temperatures will range from -1°C to +4°C, with mostly light northerly breezes.

Wednesday Night:

Conditions will remain extremely cold, with temperatures dropping to between -8°C and -2°C, potentially lower in some areas.

Most of the country will stay dry and clear, although the northwest may see additional wintry showers. Freezing fog patches are expected to develop due to light northwesterly breezes.

Authorities are urging motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution when travelling, as roads and footpaths may be treacherous.
