Passing of former Mayo County Council staff member is deeply regretted

The death of Celia Deere Webb, Snugboro, Castlebar, is widely mourned.

A popular and much-loved personality, she was a former member of the staff of Mayo County Council.

She also worked as a receptionist at Community Radio Castlebar (CRCfm) for many years.

News of her passing has evoked a tremendous sense of loss in the community.

A member of an old and respected local family, many fond tributes are being paid to her.

One stated: "Celia had a gentle, beautiful, positive outlook on life. She had an enriching presence."

Another said: "I knew Celia for years and she was a kind and beautiful lady."

A further tribute observed: "Celia was a true lady. She will be missed by everyone who was fortunate to have known her."

Celia was a former active member of Castlebar Tidy Towns and a loyal supporter of the organisation.

She was predeceased by her husband Christy Webb, parents Paddy and Kathleen, and infant brother Michael Patrick Deere.

Celia is deeply regretted by her loving partner Tom Brennan, sisters Mary and Ann Deere-Murrihy, brother Ger, elected member of Mayo County Council, sister-in-law Pauline, brother-in-law Joe, nieces Mary-Kate, Sarah, Helen, Beth and Ruby, nephew Joseph, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Celia will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, this evening (Thursday) from 5.30 until 7 p.m.

Funeral cortége will arrive at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Friday at 1.15 for Requiem Mass at 2 p.m.

Celia will be laid to rest afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
