New St. Vincent de Paul focus in Mayo county town
The newly formed St. Aloysius Conference of SVP is supporting individuals and families in need, particularly with educational costs.
It is dedicated to helping struggling families manage school expenses, assisting parents with therapy and support services, and providing students pursuing third-level education the opportunity to achieve their goals.
A spokesperson said: "At St. Aloysius, we believe that education is the most effective path to breaking the cycle of poverty, and we aim to support those who are striving to better themselves.
"One story of how we were able to support a family during a difficult time.
"I want to share my journey with SVP and the incredible support they have provided to my family. As a single mother of three children, all of whom are autistic, our lives have been filled with challenges.
"My daughter required an extension to our home to accommodate her needs, including an accessible bathroom, bedroom, and sensory room, which was crucial for her well-being and our family dynamics.
"After the construction was finished, I faced the daunting task of furnishing the sensory room. The costs for the necessary equipment were beyond my means, and I quickly discovered that resources for special needs children are often limited and expensive.
"Despite reaching out to various charities and organisations, I found little assistance available for individuals like my daughter. In my desperation, I turned to SVP, and I was overwhelmed by the kindness and understanding of their volunteers and staff. I initially felt hesitant to ask for help, but their compassion made me feel welcomed and supported.
"Thanks to SVP, the sensory room equipment they provided has transformed our lives. My daughter now has a safe space to regulate her emotions, which has significantly alleviated the pressure on our family. The difference in our daily lives is remarkable, and I am deeply grateful for the support we received.
"There are so many inspiring stories of how we have made a difference and you can help too. By donating to SVP, you can choose to nominate St. Aloysius Conference as the recipient of your contribution. Donations can be made via phone, post, or bank transfer.
"Your generosity helps support local people in your community, and for that, St. Aloysius thanks you.
"Together, we can make a real difference."
