Death of 'noble and gracious' Mayo man is widely mourned

The community of Castlebar is mourning the death of Martin Carney, Birmingham, UK, and late of Ballynew, Castlebar.

He died peacefully at Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham.

Predeceased by his father Peter, he is deeply regretted by his heartbroken mother Teresa, sons Mike and Thomas, daughter Teresa and their mother Shamsa, sisters Josephine (Clune, Wicklow) and Ruth (Swift, Castlebar), brother Thomas (Castlebar), brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

The deceased has been described in a social media tribute as 'a noble and gracious man'.

Martin will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, this evening (Wednesday) from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Requiem Mass takes place on Thursday at 11.30 a.m. with interment afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
