Work to start soon on Mayo boxing club's new gym
WORK will be starting soon on Knockmore/Foxford Boxing Club's new gym.
Better known in boxing circles as KFC, the club's announcement that KFC are to build in Foxford town certainly attracted attention.
Turned out it wasn't the fast food service and people have been very encouraging of the gym project, which has received funding under the Sports Capital Programme.
Knockmore/Foxford Boxing Club will turn the sod on their new premises next month and it is envisaged the building will be completed by the beginning of the new season in September.
The contractor selected to complete the project is the well known and reputable contractor Clydesdale Construction, under the management of Seamus Ryder.
The club recently held a two-day bucket collection to help raise much needed funds to complete the premises and the general public were extremely generous and the events were a great success.
The club’s second tournament of the season will be staged next Sunday, January 19, in Foxford Sports and Leisure Centre. Prior to the main event - the Vincy James Memorial Cup - all KFC underage boxers will get the opportunity to show their skills in the boxing ring from 1 p.m.
