Tributes to former south Mayo school principal on his passing

The death has taken place of Joe Nestor, Carrowreaghmony, Ballyglass, Claremorris.

He died peacefully at his home yesterday in the loving care of his family after a long illness bravely borne.

A former principal of Mountpleasant National School, Ballyglass, Joe was held in high regard in the parish.

A tribute by Ballyglass Community Council stated: "Joe dedicated his life to his family, school and wider community of Ballyglass, Claremorris, Carnacon and Ballintubber.

"He started Ballyglass Community Council in the 1980's. He was on the sports committee which ran the very successful annual sports and was deeply involved in the development of the group water scheme.

"His liaison with other community groups ensured that CE schemes were continued, resulting in local enhancement in our area."

The deceased had a long association with Ballintubber GAA Club.

He is deeply regretted by his wife Rita, family Sinead, Niamh, Ioseph, Grainne, Michael and Killian, grandchildren Josh, Iosold, Cathal, Katelyn, Lauren, Arthur, Margot and Finn, brothers John and Oliver, sisters Anne, Nora and Ita.

Joe was father-in-law of Gavan, Orla, Mary, Nick, Pauline and Tracy and he is also mourned by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and his wide circle of friends and neighbours.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary and his brothers Leo and Malachy.

Remains reposing at Ballyglass Community Centre on Friday evening from 5 until 7.30 p.m.

Removal from his home on Saturday morning to St Mary's Church, Carnacon, for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. with burial afterwards in Ballintubber Abbey Cemetery.
