Proposal mooted for Fontaines D.C. concerts at top Mayo stadium
An elected member of Mayo County Council wants the authority to spearhead moves to stage a series of outdoor concerts at Hastings Insurance McHale Park in Castlebar by alternative rock band Fontaines D.C.
Councillor Harry Barrett has tabled a motion calling on Castlebar Municipal District to liaise with the band's management, as well as Castlebar Chamber of Commerce and Mayo GAA, to hold the concerts at the venue next year.
He referenced the fact that two members of the internationally-successful band are from Castlebar, namely drummer Tom Coll, from Crimlin, Conor Deegan, bass guitarist.
Councillor Barrett said revenue raised from the concerts could be invested in the county town.
The motion is expected to be placed on the agenda for the February meeting of the district.
Councillor Barrett also wants the council apply for funding to the recently announced €85 million THRIVE scheme to fund a Town Centre First plan for Main Street, Castlebar.
The renovate Marsh House as a municipal building is another priority of Councillor Barrett.
