Tributes to popular Mayo veterinary surgeon on his passing
The death of Frank Maughan, MRCVS, Shore Road, Belmullet, is widely mourned in the community.
He died peacefully yesterday in the wonderful care of the staff of the Sonas Tí Aire Nursing Home, Belmullet, surrounded by his loving family.
A widely-known and respected veterinary surgeon, he was attached to the staff of the Department of Agriculture at Davitt House, Castlebar, for many years.
A popular personality, Frank was an accomplished bridge player.
Fond tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.
One stated: "He was a pleasure to know and work with.
"The help, advice and support he gave to the farming community in Mayo and his colleagues will never be forgotten."
Another said: "Always pleasant and friendly to meet at the bridge table."
A further tribute observed: "He was an amazing vet for the people of Erris and a lovely gentleman."
He will be sadly missed by his heartbroken wife Mary, son John, daughters Karen, Emer and Elaine, grandchildren Jack, Laura, Dylan, Grace, Daragh, Isabella, Lauren, Thomas, Lucas and Clara, sons-in -law Paul, Pat and Mamadou, daughter-in-law Siobhán, sisters Ethna and Dymphna, sisters-in-law Mairéad and Julia, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends, to whom sympathy is tendered
Frank was predeceased by his parents James and Catherine Maughan, brothers Jim, John, Gerry, Brendan and Paddy and sisters Maureen, Ann and Kathleen.
Remains reposing at McDonnell’s Funeral Home, Belmullet, on Sunday from 4 until 6 o’clock.
Funeral will arrive at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Belmullet, on Monday for Funeral Mass at 12 noon followed by burial in Emlybeg Cemetery.
