Major water burst on Achill Island this morning

UISCE Éireann crews are working to repair a major burst on Achill Island this morning.

Customers in Saula, Derreens, Sraheens, Cloughmore, Currane, Dooega and Ashleam are experiencing a disruption to their supply.

Crews are on the ground and every effort is being made to repair the issue as quickly as possible and return a full supply to customers.

In the meantime, alternative water supplies will be available later today in Dooega and Ashleam.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per advice from the Health Service Executive.

Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply water as quickly as possible.

She said: “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while our works are ongoing.

“It may take a number of hours to repair the burst and then reservoir levels need to be restored.”

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.
