Mayo midfielder Paul Doyle swaps Lilywhites for Drogs

It’s all change for former Westport United midfielder Paul Doyle as the midfielder waves goodbye to Dundalk FC and signs up with Drogheda United in a fresh start for 2025.

The 26-year-old, who cut his teeth in Sligo Rovers’ academy, has been on a journey through Irish football. A

fter his league debut in 2016, Doyle joined UCD in 2018, where he clocked up over 100 appearances and bagged a spot in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year during a standout final season that also saw UCD beat Waterford to clinch promotion.

Fast forward to 2022, Doyle made the jump to Dundalk, notching up 77 appearances and even penning a two-year extension in 2023. But now, he’s trading the black and white for the claret and blue as he joins last season’s FAI Cup champions.

Speaking about the move, Doyle revealed, “I had an operation after last season, but I’m fully fit now". Kevin’s been chatting to me for weeks, and with European football here too.”

The midfielder backs himself at Premier Division level, “I’m just hoping to keep myself fully fit. I know when I’m fully fit, I can be a good player in this league, so it was about someone taking a chance on me, and I’m delighted to be a Drogheda player now,” Doyle said.
