Storm Éowyn to bring sleet, snow, and strong winds to Mayo
Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory for Mayo as Storm Éowyn is set to sweep across Ireland later this week, bringing challenging conditions to the region.
The advisory, which remains in place until Saturday morning, warns of gale-force winds, heavy rainfall, and occasional sleet and snow, particularly in western and north-western areas.
The storm is expected to hit its peak on Thursday night and continue into Friday, with high seas and heavy rain increasing the risk of coastal flooding, particularly during high tides.
Residents are being urged to prepare for potential disruptions, including travel delays, fallen trees, and power outages. Met Éireann has stressed the importance of monitoring weather updates and staying indoors where possible during the storm's height.
In a statement, the national forecaster noted, “A deepening low-pressure system, Storm Éowyn, will bring very strong to gale-force winds across the country. Damaging gusts are possible, alongside transitory falls of sleet and snow.”
