Sports and recreational boost for community in south-east Mayo

AN east Mayo community is set to receive a major sports and recreational boost.

Plans for an all-weather GAA pitch, playground area, bowling surface, tennis court, walkway and outdoor gymnasium equipment at Kelly's Field in Brickens have received planning approval from Mayo County Council.

Kelly's Field Development was set up by local community activists to develop a field in the community owned by Brickens Logboy Tulrahan IRD.

It is a collaboration between the IRD, local housing association, Eastern Gaels GAA Club and Tom's Lane to provide an amenity much needed in a growing, young community.

A submission to planners set out how the field is centrally located in the village, with easy access to the childcare facility and retirement village.

It is planned that the development will be suitable for everyone in the community, from the very young to the elderly and planning approval is a significant step.
