Mayo XL Bully owners reminded by county council of new laws

New regulations prohibit the importing, breeding, selling and re-homing of XL Bully type dogs are set to come into force later next week.

From February 1, it will be illegal to own an XL Bully type dog without a ‘Certificate of Exemption’ issued by the local authority in which the dog resides.

Owners who wish to keep their XL Bully must have applied between October 1 and (before) February 1, 2025 for a Certificate of Exemption from Mayo County Council.

No fee will be charged for a Certificate of Exemption.
