Workers begin wok on the overhaul and renovation of St. Patrick's Church in Ballyhaunis.

Refurbishment of east Mayo church underway

AFTER a long period of planning, work on the refurbishment of Ballyhaunis parish church is underway.

Phase one of the refurbishment will involve the painting of the entire interior of the church, the complete overhaul and upgrading of the electrical system, which will include the complete rewiring of the building, the installation of a modern, more energy efficient lighting system, emergency lighting, fire alarm and signed emergency exits.

In light of this refurbishment work, weekday Masses (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) will be celebrated in the community hall across the road from the parish church, while weekend Masses, funerals and baptisms will continue to be celebrated in the parish church.

Access to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel will continue to be available until work in this area of the church will be carried out.

Parish Priest Fr. Stephen Farragher, who together with the pastoral council has coordinated the project, said at the weekend that the aim is to have the bulk of phase one works completed in time for Holy Week, commencing Monday, April 14.
