The news Mayo householders left without water have been waiting to hear

Repairs have been carried out to a pumping station serving the Lough Mask regional water scheme, The Connaught Telegraph can confirm.

The key facility was hit by a power outage during the peak of Storm Eowyn.

Now that it is fully operational again, water will be restored to homes served by the scheme - and which have been without a water supply since Friday.

However, it may take a few hours in some cases due to the time it takes to refill the systems.

The scheme supplies water to a large proportion of Mayo properties as well as to parts of Roscommon.

Uisce Éireann staff have been working over the past two days to rectify the problem.
