Work escalates on restoring power supplies to hard-hit Mayo homes
ESB Networks has escalated efforts in Mayo today to restore power to homes left without a supply since Storm Eowyn.
Workers have been drafted in from the lesser-hit eastern counties to assist local staff on the ground to repair extensive damage to electricity infrastructure across the county.
Nationally, a supply was restored to 143,000 customers yesterday after 768,000 properties had lost power during the record-breaking high winds.
These include hundreds of homes across Mayo where low reserves in rural water supplies has also become a major problem.
A spokesperson for ESB Networks said good progress will be made over the weekend and into next week.
But given the extent of the damage nationwide, full restoration will take more than a week in the most impacted areas.
