Water supply returning for Mayo customers served by Lough Mask plant

Water supply is returning a large cohort of Uisce Éireann customers across Mayo after power was restored to the Lough Mask Water Treatment Plant late yesterday evening.

The plant, which supplies 48,000, was fully operational overnight and this morning, and the network which serve the towns of Castlebar, Claremorris, Ballyhaunis, Knock, Ballinrobe, Irishtown/Ballindine, Westport and surrounding villages is refilling.

The Lough Mask plant also supplies customers in Co. Roscommon supplied by the Granlahan Reservoir.

Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill thanked the ESB and Uisce Éireann crews who have worked tirelessly to get the plant back in operation.

“There is some good news for customers in Mayo this morning but it will take some time for the network to replenish and a full supply to return to all customers served by the Lough Mask supply.

“Those affected by power outages in areas where supply is pumped will continue to experience a disruption to their supply until power is restored.”

Uisce Éireann crews have also identified a burst water main in the Moneen area of Castlebar and repair works are underway.

Meanwhile, power outage at other plants across the county, also due to storm Éowyn, continue to affect supplies in parts of Foxford, Kilkelly, Charlestown, Kiltimagh, Louisburgh, Westport, Achill, Erris, Clare Island, and Carras Group Water Scheme.

Collette added: “We continue to coordinate with other agencies to restore normal water supplies as quickly as possible. Once power is returned to an area it may take some time for normal water supply to be restored. Customers can go to www.water.ie and enter their address for details of localised issues and estimated restoration times.”
