Uisce Éireann working to restore water in east Mayo
CUSTOMERS in parts of east Mayo and the Mayo/Roscommon border are experiencing a disruption to their water supply this morning.
A power outage at Barnacarroll pumping station has affected customers in the following areas:
Barnacarroll
Knock
Logboy/Tulrahan
Brickens
Ballyhaunis
Granlahan
Ballinlough
Cloonfad
Loughglynn
Williamstown
A number of group water schemes, including Carrowmore, Liscat, Derry, Knocktober, Bekan, Coogue, Larganboy, Gurteen/Carrowkeel, Annagh, Cave, Abbeyquarter, Lecarrow, Bunnadober and Delvis/Knockbrock, are also affected by the power outage.
However, Uisce Éireann crews have a generator operating on site and water should be returning to the areas affected later today.
Meanwhile, flushing works will be carried out on the network this morning in order to minimise any discolouration to the supply, explained Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill. “After a disruption to a water supply, customers can often experience discolouration to their water due to dry water mains. Once water re-enters the system sediment in the pipes can cause discolouration for a short period of time.
“To minimise the risk of this we will be flushing the system this morning in preparation for a return of full supply to customers later today.”
