Busy Mayo street remains closed following explosion

Gardaí are still dealing with an incident that occurred on Lower Charles Street, Castlebar, on Sunday last and the road remains closed.

A explosion took place in the Imperial Blue Restaurant (formerly Tulsi) and two people were injured.

A detailed assessment is being carried out to fully establish the cause of the blast as well as to assess the damage.

The adjoining XL Scriney's store has been forced to temporarily close for business as a result of the situation.

The street is closed to traffic from the roundabout between Lower Charles Street at the junction of Lucan Street to the roundabout at the Military Barracks, allowing local access only.

Traffic congestion is expected in this area and people are asked to avoid this area where possible.

Motorists are advised to use the old Turlough Road to access the N5.

The two injured people, who worked in the restaurant, are still receiving medial treatment.
