Proposed upgrade of wastewater treatment plant in west Mayo village

A MAJOR upgrade for the sewage treatment system in Mulranny is in the pipeline.

Uisce Éireann is seeking planning permission for a project to upgrade the village's wastewater treatment plant.

It will see the demolition of existing redundant structures and construction of a new inlet works, new storm water holding tank complete with internal cleaning system, storm return system, access stairs and platform, a new sludge holding tank and also a new storm feed pumping station.

The proposed works will improve compliance with the Urban Wastewater Treatment Regulations 2001 and also compliance with the EPA wastewater discharge licence at the design loading.

No new water supply or foul connections are required for the development as the works are within the existing wastewater treatment plant.

The proposed works will provide a range of benefits to the community and the environment of Mulranny and its receiving waters, with enhanced treatment of wastewater prior to discharge to the Murrevagh River/Atlantic.
