Ring is named Mayo Person of the Year 2025

FORMER TD and minister Michael Ring has been announced as the Mayo Person of the Year 2025.

The Mayo Dublin Association made the announcement, which honours his commitment and contribution to the Mayo community over his 45 years as a politician, 30 of which were spent in the Dáil.

This year's community Meitheal Award winner is the SOLAS centre on the Erris Peninsula, which opened last year.

SOLAS, located in Eachléim, is a visitor experience and tourism hub exploring the history and heritage of the Mullet Peninsula. The centre offers an interactive experience that gives visitors a fascinating insight into the rich history and stories of the area, from John Millington Synge's association with the area, to the Tuke emigration ships, the local whaling industry, Inishkea Islands, and the four lighthouses in Erris.

The awards ceremony takes place next month, hosted by the Mayo Dublin Association.
