Traffic congestion issues in Mayo county town as street remains closed

The ongoing closure of Lower Charles Street in Castlebar has led to serious traffic issues at peak times.

The street has been shut to traffic since last Sunday evening when a gas explosion took place in the Imperial Blue Restaurant, formerly the Tulsi Restaurant.

It will remain closed until assessments are carried by health and safety investigators to establish the cause of the blast and the extent of the damage.

The adjoining XL Scriney Store has also been forced to close temporarily.

In the meantime, motorists are placed on notice that congestion issues are inevitable in and around the town centre, as evidenced this morning with with long traffic jams at a number of locations.
