Compensation query for wheel damage at Mayo road opening

A NUMBER of motorists have punctured tyres and damaged wheel rims where the R319 was cut open at two points near Mulranny to bring services across the road.

The contractor is responsible for compensating them, Councillor Paul McNamara was told after he raised the matter at a municipal meeting.

One location, in an 80kph area, is near the ambulance base in Mulranny and the other a few hundred metres away, he explained.

The road was cut open and services put across, but it wasn't properly reinstated and motorists have punctured tyres and damaged rims.

Councillor McNamara asked if the council or contractor were responsible and was told people have recourse through the company to be compensated.

The council granted a road opening licence and a bond was paid to the local authority, which they held.
