Mayo TD demands immediate support for households affected by power outages
Paul Lawless TD has called for urgent action to support families devastated by prolonged power outages following Storm Éowyn, welcoming the government's decision to reimburse households forced into alternative accommodation.
The Aontú deputy spoke about the critical situation facing many families, describing residents who have been without power for seven days, with some facing potentially life-threatening conditions.
"People have been shivering in their homes on the verge of hypothermia, unable to feed themselves," Lawless stated.
While praising the reimbursement scheme, Lawless stressed the need for immediate clarity.
He raised key questions about the support's scope, including who qualifies, the level of compensation, and whether retroactive support will be provided for those who already secured alternative accommodation.
Lawless is urging Intreo offices to remain open during the bank holiday weekend, with staff receiving overtime pay to process emergency vouchers and compensation quickly.
"People are in crisis. They can't wait until Tuesday."
