Popular Mayo restaurant closes

A POPULAR bar and restaurant in south Mayo has announced its closure.

Increasing costs have been highlighted in the decision to close Carney's Bar & Eating House on Abbey Street in Ballinrobe.

A notice of the decision published on the business's Facebook page explained: 'After long talks we have decided we will not be reopening Carney's Bar.

'We have enjoyed ourselves. We have had very friendly and hard working staff. We also have had fabulous customers who have supported us from the start and for that we are truly grateful.

'Despite the enjoyment of meeting people on a daily basis, certain elements have been hard. The constant increases and the cost of doing business keep the margins tight and for that reason we have decided not to invest further.

'A big thank you to our customers, our suppliers and of course our staff.'
