Mayo women's teams in provincial action
Westport United booked their passage from the preliminary round of the Connacht Women's Shield with a resounding 9-0 win over Ballinasloe Town on Sunday.
They are joined by Manulla FC in progressing after they defeated Ballaghaderreen 2-1 after extra time.
The third Mayo team in preliminary round action was Kilmore Ladies, who returned empty-handed from Galway where Kilkerrin United were 2-0 winners in their clash.
Rachel Browne led the way for Westport in their win with five goals to her credit. Saoirse Byrne had the ball in the net twice, with Rhea Hutchinson also on the scoresheet, with an OG from Ballinasloe compounding an unsuccessful visit to the seaside town for them.
Manulla, on their trip to Ballaghaderreen, fell a goal behind in the first half. But the response was swift with Mary Reilly equalising three minutes later.
A winner couldn't be found until extra time when Reilly scored again and Manulla held out to win.
